To the Members of the Rocky Mountain Color Guard Association, There has been discussion surrounding State Championships on Saturday March 27, 2010, at A decision has been made by the 2009-2010 task force, the board and ultimately myself of how Championships will be handled for 2010. After much consideration, and wanting to do what is best for everyone at hand, we will be utilizing a prelims/finals format. Although we realize that at our 2009 May meeting, we had voted on and approved that everyone will be involved in both prelims and finals, we are just not capable of doing that. The time frame involved in that type of day is not something we can accommodate. Therefore, a prelims and finals decision has been derived. Prelims will start in the morning with RA and will continue through IW. Finals will begin in the late afternoon with MS & NV. 50% of units in RA and SA along with IA-IW will perform. Reaching finals should be something all units strive for each season, not something that is automatic, which is what everyone making finals format would be. We would like to encourage those teams who ultimately do not make finals to stay for the entire show to not only show support for your fellow guards, but for the activity. We are also inviting those teams who will not be performing in finals to the full guard retreat at the end of the evening. In our May meeting, we discussed this as well and would like to be able to fulfill that. With the number of specialized awards handed out including Most Improved, Lillian Durocher Sportsmanship award and acknowledging the seniors/age-outs we have this year. Each and every guard has worked incredibly hard this season, and every season, and the decision has been made to incorporate every performing member at the end of the night. I hope that as you read this, you understand that I have taken all of comments which have been forwarded to the Board, and made this decision based on what is of greatest benefit to our units and Rocky Mountain Color Guard Association. We do encourage you to attend the annual May meeting (which is scheduled for Sunday, April 25th). It is your place to have your voice heard on various items, including future Championship formats.
